Visitors and Site Issues

Now there's some activity on the website with new visitors everyday. It was too late when I found a bug on posting support queries - the form was not having a proper Action value, so one of the visitor faced this trouble when trying to post a query. There was another one, who was able to post a query, but the auto-email failed due to some setup changes in GoDaddy's server policies. They are not permitting out emails from gmail.com, yahoo.com, etc. Did a workaround there, and resolved the problem.

Site updates were becoming too lengthy procedures, atleast to open GoDaddy's hosting file manager, upload the zipped updates, and to unarchive them. Finally, I succeeded in making a direct update method on the site, which click of a button collects the updated content from my local computer. It works fine, and in less time.

Silver Jubilee for .com domains

The first ever .com site registered was symbolics.com. This was done on March 15, 1985. Today it's the 25th anniversary day. Check out the banner on my website: http://www.consultsarath.com/

It was just coincidental. that I saw this fact today. I was searching through domains, and I found a lot of first .com domains, and it was surprising to find it was the 25th anniversary date today for the first domain. You could read more on this from http://www.25yearsof.com/

Generate High Quality Favicon.ico

Design and generate high quality favicons for your website for my new favicon generator - http://www.consultsarath.com/public-utilities/Favicon.aspx.

I was unable to find a good favicon generator eventhough many free sites are available for this purpose. These would give you a 16x16 icon, which renders in a poor quality. These icons do not have proper antialiasing, and mostly exhibit sharp edges if you look closer. I did some study on the favicon concept, and found icons are used commonly as they are the only compatible image type for Internet Explorer, where are other browsers allow PNG, GIF, etc. also. Internet Explorer allows 32x32 icons also, so there is hardly no purpose in sticking on to 16x16 icons. Although these icons are displayed in 16x16 size, the 32x32 icons exhibit a better quality.

You can use Adobe Photoshop to create your favicon logos. You can create these logos in 100x100 size or even bit more bigger. If you go more larger image sizes, you would tend to add more minute details which would get lost while resizing to 32x32. So small sizes are preferable. Stick to 100x100.

You can use transaparency for the logo, I have worked really hard to protect the tranform the edges while resizing to icons. Most online favicon generators produce very sharp edged icons with poor color control. This has been well managed in my favicon generator. You get clean edges icons here.

Save the designed images in PNG format. This format works well for transaparencies, and preserves colors to its best.

Now the final stage. Open my favicon generator: http://www.consultsarath.com/public-utilities/favicon.aspx. You have a very simple single line form somewhere at the bottom of the page, where you can upload your image file. Click Convert to Favicon.ico and I would instantaneously give you the favicon.ico. Save the icon file, and move it conveniently to your websites root folder.

Hope you know more about the favicon.ico. You would have to wait quite a lot before your icon changes on your Internet Explorer naturally. You'd have to clear you cache, etc., reopen your browser one or more times to get the proper favicon in place. If I am wrong here, and you know some better steps, please write to me.

ConsultSarath.com

Everything has changed with my website. The boring static content which stayed for almost six months long has gone, and I have put a dynamic website on it's place. It's actually a redirect to my new key website www.consultsarath.com. There is not much there, but still something you can try. I believe, time will make it grow. Now it has just few articles and a couple of technical support posts. Hope this would be a good start for my website.

ConsultSarath.info

I have finally released a website to publish my technical profile, as well as to generate revenue by consultations and projects. The website, www.consultsarath.info, is uploaded with some simple text content in it. I liked to test with Google Ads, etc., and I have added some Google Flavor into it. Additionally, I have put snapshots component and Kampyle feedback component there to make the feel of a website. It works well, inspite of being an under-construction content there.

I made some entries in some websites and directories to get search engine attractions, and that too worked well.

Finally, and for the first time, I have put my pen on blogging. This spot shall be the official blog of my website, to pen down changes and future plans.
